77: When, Why, and How to Effectively Pivot in Business with Shana Dewitt

No matter how great you are, or you have skills and experience, those aren’t the things that keep you from growing your business. It’s your self-doubt.

Shana talks to us today all about how she went from the corporate world into the world of entrepreneurship. She talks about when, why, and how to pivot in business. We also talk about steps to and other valuable topics such as clarifying your message, being consistent, and of course, mindset.

Shana Dewitt is a Business Strategist and Coach that helps women launch and transition their business to do more of the work that lights them up. Shana uses her branding expertise and experience owning three online businesses to create standout messaging, simple marketing strategies, and a magnetic mindset to help bosses create a clear path to clients. When she’s not working you can find her having inspiring conversations about entrepreneurship as the host of the Be Heard Podcast or planning her next adventure with her family.

When she finally decided to pivot in business, she didn’t have entrepreneurial friends, there were no online courses. So, she just figured everything out and found out that she should share with other people her experience and should help them.

That’s what inspires her to coach people and give them real actionable steps and strategies, accountability, and also support them.

How to Effectively Pivot in Business

When she coaches someone, she goes very serious in making sure the following:

1. Clarifying your message. Make sure you’re telling people who you are, what you do, and who you do it for. Come up with a very simple marketing strategy, play with it a little bit too. Write it out, share it in your community, and see what other people think.

2. Consistency. Shana believes that the key is to find something you love to do. If you hate video, then don’t do it. “Anything will work if you work it.” So, you have to decide what the thing is for you.

3. Mindset. Have somebody catch you when you start tearing yourself down and will teach you how to burn those doubts around. If you keep denying yourself just because you think you’re not good enough, those opportunities will never come.

“Whenever you’re struggling and feeling like you’re not that sure, just go with your gut, your heart, or whatever is lighting you up, and back it up with your experience and your expertise.”

To pivot in business means serving people even better and if you’re in a place right now where you feel like something needs to shift because of circumstances, just give yourself a minute to think about it. How are you gonna serve people even better? Get curious about it rather than feeling like you’re forced into it.

If you decide that now is the right time for you to pivot in business, Shana has a program called “Perfectly Pivot” where they go through and create your first offer and get all your marketing together so you could launch in just weeks.

I think you guys will get a lot of tips here. Start looking at your strategy a little bit. Maybe you need to pivot in business, and pivoting isn’t starting over. It’s expanding on your skills. You’re just changing a little bit, there’s nothing wrong with that. As Shana said, you don’t grow as a business owner if you don’t pivot in business.
