Episode 216: Exploring 8 Different Ways Pitching Can Be Done
In this episode of The Savvy Scribe Podcast, we explore various methods of pitching as a freelance writer.
Welcome to the Savvy Scribe podcast in this podcast, we will discuss what Janine has learned in 6 years of writing in her business and nursing job.
My freelance writing started with simple Fiverr jobs. I haven’t had the most stable freelance career. I have learned an awful lot of things and taught myself so much. And here’s a digested overview.
Get clear on what you do (but don’t be closed to the new). When I left nursing and started freelancing, I mostly worked as an article writer.
You have to go to work (at least in the beginning). The world is completely different in nursing. For most of my freelancing, I’ve had to go out and find the work. I’ve had some clients that were referred to me, but almost always through past clients that I’d sought out. The best way to do this is to first get clear on what you do.
Be the possible person to work with (and the best to have worked with). No matter what area of freelancing you are in, be the best person to work with. Always respond to emails on time. Always pick up the phone. Always explain things clearly and think ahead about what they might need.
Try to meet face to face (or at least on the phone). Networking sends an icy shiver down the back of many freelancers. Yup, it can be scary. But, do it. I promise it helps.
Be all in (and accept the Fear). Don’t half-arse freelancing if you are going to do it.
